Engine Mechanical problem
1976 Chevy Corvette V8 Two Wheel Drive Manual 0

Hi,
I have recently installed a newly rebuilt 350 in my 76 Vette. The motor was the original that I had professionally rebuilt by a local machine shop. When I run the new motor it runs fine and sounds great but heres the problem. When I look under the car the catalytic converter is glowing orange hot. I have retightened all the manifold bolts, carb bolts and screws, and the car has all new vacuum lines etc. Is this normal or am I missing something.
Thanks
Bob

Ok either the car is running very rich or the cat is no good and pluging up. I would double check the carb adjustments and timing and if all it good then the cat is going bad. Let me know how it goes

Hi,
Thanks for the info. Since the car is a frame off restoration the cat is brand new so I ruled that out. The timing is set at factory specs. So? Do you have any other ideas?
Thanks again
Bob

If the cat is getting red these are the only reasons that can cause it. I must ask what cam did you use? A cat gets red either because it is bad or the engine is running very rich so it is working harder to get the exhaust clean or raw fuel. Was the carb rebuilt? If so did all the main wells get sealed with apoxy and the main throttle shaft rebushed? If not then it wasn't done right. Get back to me so we can figure this out. Don't forget the cam spec too ok.
