HI, I'M HEARING AN EXHAUST LEAK, IT ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE IT'S COMING FROM AND EXHAUST VALVE NOT SEATING PROPERLY, WILL A COMPRESSION TEST OF THAT CYLINDER TELL IF THE VALVE IS NOT SEAT CORRECTLY. IF SO, IT WOULD MOST LIKELY MEAN THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE LIFTERS. WOULD A VALVE MAKE THAT KIND OF NOISE NOT SEATING RIGHT?

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME JOHNNYO

If you HEAR an exhaust leak it's probably aq cracked exhaust manifold or a bad manifold gasket. I had to replace both my manifolds on my '79 because they were cracked. If the car runs a compression test will only tell you if the rings are good or bad. If an exhaust valve was not seating you would definatly know because it would be backfiring through the carb or exhaust pipe. Check your exhaust manifolds first because a valve job is a lot more costley.

Thanks for the reply, I took a compression test, they all read 155 to 160 psi. So that great.I'm planning on replacing manifolds with shorty header, that will solve my concern. Thanks agian.
