Chevy Cobalt question

I have a 2005 chevy cobalt and it is spitting and sputtering when I try to crank it. Once I get it cranked it's fine. Now the engine light has came on. What does this mean?

Need to pull the codes from the computer regarding the CEL, probably going to show miss fire codes maybe more. There may be a computer control issue such as a sensor giving false data to the computer and the computer in turn making bad adjustment to the fuel/air mix.
