Have a 1998 Chevy Caviler that came in for no idle, found bad plugs and wires. Installed new plugs and wires. The car now idles at around 560RPM when hot. No codes are present. Any ideas what the problem is. The Air Idle motor costs $103 and would rather not replace it unless I new for sure its the problem.

Sorry for the late reply.

If your saying the idle is too low. I'd clean the throttle body and iac and see if it helps. Use a scanner, look at live engine data for iac counts. 0 counts- the iac is fully extended, 255 counts the iac pentle is fully retracted. Normal at idle-4--60 counts.

If idle is 100 rpms less than required for 19 seconds, a code should set, p0506. You can use the scanner to check idle and idle required, see if any difference? Even if the code doesn't set, you could still run the diagnostics for the code.

I realize this is an old post. They are improving the site all the tijme, more moderators and it's free. Keep us in mind.

Have a good day.
