The engine light is on the temp guage is zero. When you hook up a computer it clears the error and says its the ECT sensor. When you start the car the temps guage works for about 2 seconds then zeros out again and the engine light comes on. Replaced the ECT and problem is the same. Any suggestions would be great.

Hi, My cavalier's temp gauge didn't work either and the check engine light wouldn't go out and it said it was the coolant sensor which we fixed and it still kept doing it, turns out the wiring to it was bad, and their was a bad ground, had to take the car to someone good with tracing wiring problems. Only cost me $88 which was pretty good considering the car runs great now, it ran rough, the transmission shifted rough and the gas mileage wasn't as good. I went from getting 18 mph to 25. Hope this helps. Linda :-)
