When I press down on the brake my car shakes back and fourth to the left and the right. And just before the car stops there is a loud sound on the passenger side front. The car feels like the wheel is moving out of place. When someone is looking at the car from the outside they said it appears as if the wheel is being pushed out and back in. What could this be.

In addition to the brakes. Don't forget to check the control arm bushings. That can cause noise and play.
