I just changed one out on my '96 Cavalier, 2.4L. If you look at your radiator you will see the top hose from the radiator to the motor, Right where it connects to the motor you will see a piece of white metal (weak metal, but very heat resistant) it is sort of shaped like the neck and head of a goose. Your thermostat is inside that. There are 3 bolts on it (I think 10mm) remove those, out will come your thermostat. Be careful when taking that piece of metal off though it IS weak and it IS getting cold so it can break if you apply to much pressure. I suggest doing it a little at a time on each bolt untill it is snug (replacing the gasket would be a cheap and good idea as well) When snug just give it anouther 1/4 turn on each bolt and you will be fine.
