I live in the mountains and when I go up a mountain on the interstate there is a little burned oil smell. I don't push the car too hard and I always drive easy. Would changing from 5W30 to 10w30 oil make difference. Should I use 10w30 anyhow since the high mileage?

I use 10w40 high mileage oils in my older vehicles. As a motor gets older the bearing tolerances get bigger thicker oil aids in filling that gap per say. As far as the burning smell I would check for a possiable oil leak. Valve cover gaskets are common. And the oil usually burns off before hitting the ground so you dont see the leak on the ground.
