Engine Mechanical problem
1994 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 130K miles

I am working on removing the head to change the blown gasket. Next to come off are the pwr steering pump and timing---How do I keep from throwing the engine out of time?

As you see in the diagrams no need for you to remove and or change timing as gears and chain set well below the head
good luck

Ok
The new gasket is on, ready to tighten.

Torguing the head today----Tighten the bolts an additional 90 degrees? WHAT?

This would change the setting right?

Rocker arm nuts are 22 ft. Lbs.

We are all in different time zones.

The head bolts mean an additional 1/4 turn beyond ft lb spec.

22 ft lbs on these rocker arm nuts is just barely tight? Do I need to tighten these a little more also?

Thank you Larry

Spec say 22 and it should be enough
as you have hydraulic lifter once the engine start lifter will be filled with oil taking any play in the push rod
over tightening them will cause lifter to collapse.
