1990 Chevy Caprice V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

i was driving on the freeway and when I tried to get over, my car just revved up but didnt go into gear. The car stayed crunk until I cut it off and it wouldnt turn back on, only turn over. Whats the problem?

A couple of pososibilities here, either there is a fuel problem/ignition problem or you may have threw a tiiming chain when it revved up. You'll have to check all three. Bu tit soulnds like your trans is shot too.
