You probably have it running to rich making it do that. It could be running on the lean side as well, depending on what part of the country you are in. LIke mountains out west. You should try detuning it a little bit so it can not get so hot. If you hav this setup for drag racing it won't matter if you detune it a little for he street. You can alwas set it up for the rack anytime, just write the stuff down so you can put it back. Check your exaust gaskets at the block for leakage as you may be getting air in there doing that as well.

If your car has over a 10.5-1 compression the octane rating shouldn't even bother the engine. But if you put in 87 octane and it helped i' would beleive it more bad fuel than anything else. I personnally don't use stabil as it was invented for 2 stroke engines which have oil mixed in the fuel not a 4 cycle engine. Fuel nowadays is only good for about a year so the best thing to do is make sure you use all the fuel in your tank so you start the fall orwhen you put the car up with fresh fuel. Alot of people beleive in stabil, I just don't prefer to use te stuff my self. Glad it fixed though.
