First things first take the pan off completely clean the mounting serface on the trans and the pan. Now look for deep scratches, grooves any form of damage to the two surfaces. If there is damage on the trans surface it will need to be resurfaced. If the pan has damage to its surface replace it. Sounds like you have damage to the pan from your description of the pan.

Note: before you reinstall the pan to the trans take a dry cloth and some rubbing alcahol pour a small amout to the rag and clean the surface of the trans and the pan, then apply a very thin coat of silicon to both surface then place the gasket on the pan and install.

You must tourq bolts to spesifications never over tighten them that can cause a leak by damaging the gasket I personally use rubber.

Let me no if this helps.
