Hello. I have a 1989 cheverlet beretta 2.0 4-cyl 189,000 miles. The other day I was driving down the road and my service engine light came on. When I got home I parked it, and when I started it the next day, it was smoking black smoke and flooding itself out. So I went and bought a throttle positioning censor and put it on. Thant didnt help. So I bought an air idle control valve. That fixed the smoking and flooding. But my problem is the service engine liht is still on, any suggestions?

You can read the codes with a paper clip on an 89.
Ground out the last tow on the aldl connector under dash and turn key to ON. The check engine light will flash code 12 one flash, then two flashes///
three times then give any other 2 digit codes stored.

You can clear any old codes by removing a battery cable for 10 seconds.
