i was told that if i change the heads that the bottom half of the motor will need to be reeplaced too

Hi there,

this is not always the case, what happens is that if you over haul the heads and increase compressions to the cylinders, if the rings are weak, you can experience oil consumption problems, what you can do is get a leak down test done first to determine the condition of the rings, if the engine is already using oil, this will not be helpful and you may wish to do the engine as a unit repair.
