Hello,

I have a '98 Chev Astro AWD, 4.3L That will not start. I thought it was out of fuel and added 4.5 gallons via gas can so there should be enough fuel in the tank. I can hear the fuel pump pressurize when the ignition is turned on. But, it starts and dies immediately as it would if it had just run out of fuel. I have made over 25 attempts to start it and it continues to start and run for about 2 seconds before it quits so I'm thinking it must not be completely starved of fuel or it wouldn't start. I would greatly appreciate any ideas you can share with me. Thanks.

Check the fuel pressure if okay test the fuel pump and oil pressure switch. This is the one that powers the fuel pump after the engine starts up.

Welcome to the forum. Right now it sounds like the theft/security system might be causing a problem.

You know, come to think of it, the security light on the dash stays lit after it starts and shuts off. What do I check if fuel pressure is okay? Will the security system reset if I disconnect the battery for about ten minutes? This has worked for a couple of other problems.
