I dont hear any hissing noise to indicate a vacume leak, is there any other reason the ac blows from the defrost vent and not the dash board vents?

I agree with you check vacuum, some systems, if vacuum is lost, it will default to defrost. Your directional doors/actuators all work off vacuum. Your hvac controls which actuator gets vacuum.
