1993 Chevy Astro 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My water pump leaks from the lower hole that is made during manufacturing, is there any way to plug it to stop it from leaking or does the pump have to be replaced? I'm not sure the reasoning for those holes, but that is where it leaks from.

The hole you refer to is in front of the shaft seal. When there is coolant visable dripping from that hole, then it is time to replace the pump. Usually the shaft bearing is next to self destruct. Save yourself a lot of grief out on the road, and change the pump now.
