Code P1382

While driving the oil light came on and soon there after the maintenance req light came on and the engine shut off. I pulled the dipstick and there was NO oil on it. After adding oil I tried to crank. Does not sound right and will not start. I scanned it today and it throws the P1382 code. Did I totally destroy the motor? And advice?

P1382 relates to the cylinder position sensor-

The cylinder position sensor is part of the distributor and there is a 8-pin connector that the distributor plugs into. You need to unplug that and test the resistance on two of the wires that go to the cylinder sensor. The wire colors are orange and white. If the resistance is not within 350-700 ohms then either one of those wires is bad, or the sensor itself is bad/wiring/PCM.

The car will not accelerate past 2500 rpm's. It cuts back whenever it is revved out or shuts off. Whenever it is revved out past 2500 rpm's.

I checked under a four cylinder as you did not give engine size. Have the distributor housing checked it may be bad or a wiring issue. It can also maybe a missing shield, bad coil, ECM/PCM and of all things alternator. So unplug alternator and see if runs better if it does replace alternator and clean battery terminal ends.

Car runs fine. But check engine light came on when I got home and parked car. Code says P1382. I erased code and it came right back on. I am thinking distributed cap?

Good morning.

This is a code for one of the sensors inside the distributor. It contains three sensors which send signals to the PCM for the fuel injection.

In most cases, we replace the entire distributor with a new cap and rotor as well. Cross arcing inside the cap may be the root cause of failure of the sensor.

The scan tool indicates Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1382: No signal in the Cylinder Position (CYP) sensor circuit

DESCRIPTION
The CYP Sensor detects the position of No. 1 cylinder for sequential fuel injection to each cylinder.

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the connector(s) from the distributor.
2. Disconnect the ignition wires from the distributor ignition (DI) cap.
3. Remove the distributor mounting bolts, then remove the distributor from the cylinder head.
