Another day and another issue. Any guesses as to what the specific cause may be?

In most cases, the catalytic converter is bad. Are there any drivability issues related to the code or has the check engine light simply turned on?

Also, there are products that are designed to help with this type of issue. I normally wouldn't use them, but I have heard they have worked. It's just a thought.

Note: the code is for bank 2 only, so let me know if there are any other codes present.

Take care,

Joe

No other codes present, and I have not noticed any drivability issues whatsoever. Some possible issues I saw online were a bad oxygen sensor or a clogged catalytic converter.

A faulty O2 sensor will set a code before this code would have appeared. That's why I asked if other codes were present. Also, if the converter is partially plugged, you would notice drivability issues such as a loss of power, poor idle, stalling, and the list goes on.

Here is a link that explains the most common symptoms of a faulty converter:

By chance, do you have a live data scan tool? If you do, I would like you to watch the O2 sensor voltages and let me know what they do. They should be changing. (If it stays constant at one voltage), the sensor is bad. In that case (still sends a signal but is inaccurate) the P0420 could be a false negative.

Let me know.

One thing I just noticed is that the check engine light went away. Should I just wait and see if it comes back then read the code again? And I do not believe my reader is a live data scan.

Hi,

Absolutely wait. I'm interested in knowing if it comes back, so let me know. Also, let me know if any of the symptoms identified in the aforementioned link seem to mirror any of the symptoms you have.

Take care of yourself,

Joe
