Okay, this car listed above is an X Highway Patrol car. So I'm driving and everything is fine then the low oil level light comes on and the and a/c compressor stops cooling. I check the oil level on the dip stick and it's good. So I changed the low oil light sensor. Okay, we're running again all is good then the check engine light comes on. So I remove the positive battery cable and touch the positive side cable to the negative to drain any stored energy and reset the computer but the check engine light keeps coming back on. In the last 6 months I have replaced the water pump, optispark, MAP sensor, mass airflow sensor, coil, control module and the oil level sensor. Sometimes the car will start in the morning but most of the time it will not.

I don't know what to do and I really enjoy the car.

Best regards,

Mike Smith

Hello, I'm Danny.

Have you checked to see what code number is being stored/returning? Here is a tutorial showing how to retrieve obd1 codes:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/buick-cadillac-chevy-gmc-oldsmobile-pontiac-gm-1983-1995-obd1-code-definitions-and-retrieval-method

After performing this get back to us with the code number and we'll diagnose from there.Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Hi Danny, no I have not yet. The Parts Store that has the code reader you described will not allow me to rent it so therefore I have to drive my car in 35 miles one way and I'm not sure if it will start again after I get there. Did I mention the X highway patrol car is a 1995 SS Impala? Yesterday evening I replaced the ECT Sensor that goes into the water pump and the car fired up on the first bump of the key. I took the car out it drove beautifully and showed signs of great horsepower improvement that I've not seen in a while. Right before I got home the check engine light came on but this time the engine didn't stall or sputter like it did the very last time. The Lt1 was purring like a cat. I get the car back in the garage and I turned it off and I restarted it and the check engine light had gone off with out removing the battery cable so I started the car man times and again the Lt1 started beautifully every time. Okay yesterday it was 85 degrees here we had a cold snap come threw and it was 48 degrees this morning 5:00 am here in Hamlin TX. So I jumped up got dressed and grabbed a cup of coffee and went to the garage and the car would not start but only turn over. But no check engine light. I have no clue!

Best regards.

Hello again Mike.

Regardless, whether the check engine light stays on, flickers, or turns off a code is stored. Have you tried to use the tutorial to check for diagnostic codes that I sent you? Let me know. And yes, I have much love for the 1995 Impala SS. My heart also lies with the 1986-1988 Monte Carlo SS.

Hi Danny. Yes I was able to find a cheap GM reader and it did nothing and I used the paper clip jump wire method and still no flashing light of any kind. When I put the reader in the port or the jumper wire and turn on the key the Safety seat belt is on and the check gauge light is on and that's it. No flashing of any kind. Let me add a while back the temperature gauge quit working so I replaced the sending unit but it did not fix the problem so I just keep a close eye on my coolant. I have included a pic of the Vin # to my car. Is there any kind of sensor that will allow the car to start when the weather is warmer and not start when the weather is much cooler.

Best regards,

Mike Smith

Danny. I also forgot to mention that when I plugged in the GM reader and or the paperclip the only thing that happened was my electric fans came on.
