I have had the charging system tested and once I bring the RPM's up to about 2,000 the voltage output from the alternator drops drastically. On three occasions now when I go to accelerate on the road the car either has shut off or the battery light along with the brake like comes on. Any ideas?

Hello, I'm Danny.

Have you had the alternator replaced? It sounds like it might have a bad internal voltage regulator. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Hi Danny,

Yes, last night I pulled the alternator and took it to both AutoZone and NAPA and both passed it on bench test. So, I replaced the battery and right away as soon as I accelerate the battery light comes on still. Has not shut off yet with the new battery but given the light has come on three times randomly during acceleration I am spinning wondering what it could be. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Hello again.

Have you inspected the battery cables? Check the connections for looseness/frayed/dirty/corrosion type problems. Have you used a professional type scanner to view live data on the charging system? Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.
