The car is in the shop. Mechanic replaced entire ignition assembly on the steering column. Locksmith coded the key to the assembly. Now the car will start, but runs for only a few seconds, then shuts off. I don't believe the key has a chip, but I could be wrong. The mechanic is stumped. We need help.

Hi and welcome back.

It sounds like the pass-lock security system is triggered from the new key cylinder.

To relearn the cylinder put the key in and turn it to run. Do not start it. Leave the key on for 10 minutes until the security light on the gauge panel goes out.
Turn the key off for 10 seconds and then back to run for 10 minutes.

Do this 3 times in total. On the last time at the end of 30 mins turn the key off for 20 seconds and then start the car. This should fix the issue.
