The first time the check engine light came on and #3 ignition coil was changed. The problem continued. Transmission fluid change was suggested and done. Problem continues. The car also needs a new flex pipe. It was suggested that it was causing a backflow issue. Does this sound possible?

This sounds more like a misfire problem; I would replace all spark plugs and the remainder of the ignition coils. Here is a generic guide to help you change out the spark plugs with instructions below to help you with your car:

Spark Plug .................... AGSF-32WM

You must remove the upper intake manifold which I have included as well. I would also service the throttle bore.

Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
