Car jerks while keeping the same speed

I have recently changed my EGR valve but now my car jerks while driving the same speed, but if I put my foot down and pulling away it is all fine. I have used an OBD reader and the short term trim is bouncing between 20 and -20.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

The first thing I suspect based on description is a vacuum leak. Most likely, it's at the EGR. Double check for that and let me know what you find.

Also, please conform the engine size. 1.6 does not exist. Also, if it has a turbo.

Hello, I have checked for leaks and the EGR valve but could not find any leaks. The car is 1598cc engine and it does not have a turbo.

I hate to ask, but are you in the US? I have nothing on a 1.6L engine for this year and model. The smallest here is a 1.8. The CC size you gave me indicates it is a 1.6.

No problem. We can try just the same. They all work off the same basic principals.

Did this problem just start since the new EGR was installed? When you removed the old EGR, did you inspect where it mounts to make sure there was not excessive carbon build up? Are you getting vacuum to the EGR? It almost sounds like the valve is opening opposite to when it should or there is a blockage.

Yeah, it was fine when I first fitted the new one but after a little while it just started out of nowhere. I have checked the mount and it seems all clear and the EGR does have vacuum. Would it be a good idea to refit the old EGR and see if it does it then?

Hi, I have fitted the old EGR and it has stopped doing it. Guess I will be spending more money on another EGR.

Glad to hear that. Be careful with where you get parts. Some of the lower end parts are really made cheaply and just do not hold up.
