Inboard CV joint back re-installation problem

Just replaced passenger lower ball joint and CV axle, but somewhere along the way the snap ring came off of the intermediate shaft. I put on an external 7/8 snap ring, but now the inboard joint wont go on the intermediate shaft at all. I can get it on no problem without the snap ring. So is use the external snap ring the wrong choice here?

Hi,

I believe you are referring to the set ring. Take a look at the pic below. I highlighted what I believe you are referring to. Is that the correct part?

Also, pic 2 is an exploded view. If the above is incorrect, take a look at pic 2 and let me know which one you are referring to.

You have to get that part. The external snap-ring is what is preventing you from getting it together.

I have a feeling you will need to get it from a dealership.
