Good morning,

I attached the procedure for you with a picture.

What codes do you have that makes you think it needs the canister? This is not a common failure at all.

Roy

REPLACEMENT

1. REMOVE CHARCOAL CANISTER ASSEMBLY

imageOpen In New TabZoom/Print

a. Disconnect the connector.
B. Disconnect the 2 fuel tank vent hoses.
1. Deeply push the connector inside.
2. Pinch portion A.
3. Pull out the connector.

C. Disconnect the purge hose.
D. Pinch the fuel tube connector clip and then pull out the fuel emission tube.

NOTE:
- Check around the connector for dirt or mud before this operation and remove the dirt if necessary.
- Be careful of mud because the quick connector has an O-ring which seals the pipe and connector that can be contaminated.
- Do not use any tool in this operation.
- Do not bend or twist the nylon tube. Protect the connector by covering it with a vinyl or plastic bag.
- When the pipe and connector are stuck, push and pull the connector to release and pull the connector out carefully.

E. Remove the 3 bolts and charcoal canister.

2. INSTALL CHARCOAL CANISTER ASSEMBLY

a. Install the charcoal canister with the 3 bolts.

Torque: 19 N.M (193 kgf. Cm, 14 ft. Lbf)

b. Connect the fuel emission tube.
C. Connect the purge hose.
D. Connect the 2 fuel tank vent hoses.
E. Connect the connector.

Thanks Roy. Initially O'Riley did the code check and gave four or five codes. Which said that the canister has to be replaced. The dealer did again a check and said that there there was dirt on the filler tube mouth. They cleaned. I replaced the gas cap. I also replaced the vapor sensor at the front. The check engine light again came on. Finally the dealer's mechanic said that the canister need to be replaced. I double checked with another mechanic at another Toyota dealer. He said, given the code, some how water has entered into the canister which is unusual and has to be replaced. We check all the hoses and with a meter checked the electrical connection. They are okay.
Thanks for your help. Is the canister removed from the bottom of the car or have to remove the last row and access the gas tank etc?

Thanks again,
Ramsey
