Hi, I have a 98 cadillac STS northstar v8 with 160,000 miles on it.

The A/C blows great like the heat, but it won't get COLD. When we tried to put freon (r-134) in it, you could hear something sounding like air leaking out in the front of the car. Please say it's just a hose or something under $1,000 dollars. We had to replace the alternator, which started a fire on some of the wiring harness just last november.

PLEASE HELP!

Get some a/c leak detecter. It goes in like you would fill with freon. The fire how much damage did it do. Was it near the a/c compressor? If it was that bad it may have burnt the rubber o ring seals on the compressor.

We took it directly to the dealer and just some of the wiring was damaged, it was replaced and a new alternator was put in for $1700, everything else was in working order and fine as far as they told us upon leaving.

Thanks for such a quick reply, I realize I should just take the car in and get the diagnostics done on the A/C, I guess I'm just looking for a price range before I go in.

Best case: hose
Worst case: compressor
