1995 Cadillac Deville Accelerates on own

I have a 1995 Cadilllac Deville 4.9 engine 155000 miles. Recently the car has been accelerating on its own. This happens on and off at different speeds, and the check engine light comes on and off. Also when I m at a stand still at a light the vehicle will sometimes idle high and if I remove my foot from brake it will accelerate and take off without me hitting the gas pedal. Any ideas what this could be and is it exspensive or worth fixing? Thanks.

I was having the same problem. I was told that it was the idle motor. Let me know what you find.

May not be the idle air control motor, I've been haveing issues only at idle with mine loping 200rpm, I have a new motor on order. You need to check the engine codes which on your model is done through the Climate control center I believe. Or if you have a message center on the dash. There's a good website for cadi's that explains the process and gives the diagnostic codes. No more spending 70$ at the service shop for diagnostic checks. Do a yahoo search for cadillac Diagnostic codes and read through the info.
