2004 Cadillac CTS Steaming car battery with bad smell !

My CADI'S battery is steaming and there are no messages on the info screen to suggest that thier is anything wrong. Also the car temp is normal. The only problem I had with the battery is that about four months ago my battery died while I was listening to music and cleaning the car ! I got a jump from a friend and the car has seemed to be fine until today! Do I just simply need a new battery or is their more to this. I have not upgraded or downgraded the vehicle in any manor it is totally stock!

Its probably overcharging-get the alternator checked out-battery could explode.

To confirm read the voltages with a voltmeter while engine is running anything over 16 volts is no good-
