Order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. #1 is at the front of the left(drivers side) of cylinders. The best way to find #1 on the cap is with the plug out, crank until compression develops, line up the timing mark on the balancer with 0 on the scale, and pull the cap to see where it points. This is the sure shot way. If someone has had the distributor out and it is out of reference, The book location may not be correct.
