How far can I go?

I own a 1995 buick regal which has 121,000 miles on it. In the last day, my car's "service engine soon light" and popped on, and I notice ocaissonal bucking as I accerlate. I'm on vacation in a very rural part of vermont, set to head home to Philly tomorrow. What's going on, do I need to find a local mechanic ASAP? I noticed the problem a hour into the drive up here, and it made it fine, but i'm becoming increasingly concerned. It's not a smooth acceleration, it sputters.

Since you're having performance issues, I'd get it checked soon. If there is an Autozone in the area, take it there - they will hook up a diagnostic to check the cause of your Service Engine Soon light for free.

It could be anything from your transmission to a loose gas cap, so get the diagnostic done first, preferably for free from a place that has no incentive to overstate the problem. Since Autozone does not do repairs on site, my opinion (worth what it costs you) is that they would not have an incentive to overstate the problem.
