Can anyone tell me exactly how to change a thermostat on a 2001 buick regal GS 3.8. Where it is in the engine? So if anyone knows where I can learn how to change it like online please let me know. My car will not pass deq because of the code P0128 and that means the coolant temperature is lower than normal. I need to save money so I want to do the repair by myself. Please help!

The code p0128 does refer to coolant temp being too low to open thermostat but it may also mean the coolant system is low on fluid or the ect sensor(temp sensor ) has failed and sending the wrong signal to the pcm

i would check the fluid level firt in the rad and fillif need and get back to me on this post and we will go from there

thanks, jim

The coolant level is not low, anything else? Can I check if the thermostat is stuck in the open position without having to drain all the coolant? Let me know if there is an easy way to do it.

Yes, I would start with the thermostat, and you may need th ect too, but a thermostat should be done at that mileage anyway, look around the alternator it should be right there, and you dont have to drain the whole system but it will dain down to the point of the thermostat
