I have a 2001 Regal LS 3.8 non-supercharged. We have been having problems the last couple weeks with starting. Most of the time it would catch just fine. Other times it would click, catch, kick over, fail. We'd have to try again. Sometimes it would only take a couple tries. Other times it would take quite a few minutes to cycle between just clicks to it trying to kick over, before it would actually start.

Today, it started just fine. My wife was at the gas station and it wouldn't start back up again at all. It would just make the clicking sound. I was pretty sure it was the starter so I bought a starter while we were waiting for the tow truck to arrive. Once we got the car home, I replaced the starter and tried to start it and it did the same thing. It just clicks. Doesn't even try to kick over.

If you are getting a solid click and its a new starter then It would more then likely be your battery. If you are starting and driving it the battery is not charging properly because its old, corroded, or the alternator is not working properly. Try charging or changing the battery.
