1989 Buick Lesabre Speedometer works sometimes and sometime

My Speedometer sometimes works and sometimes it does not. What do I need to do to have it work all the time? When it stops working for a period of time and when it begins to work, it seems as if it "warmed" up. I don't have any warranty and not much money so what can I do to fix this myself?

My car did this. You need to remove dash pad to remove the speedometer head. The contacts between the connector and the printed circuit need to be cleaned. Be careful when removing the speedometer and disconnect the shift indicator cable.
