Battery Light On - 1994 Buick Century

I replaced the battery on the '94 Buick Century
6 cylinder
32,000 orig miles- the Battery light is staying on?
I got the car from my 87 yr old father who hasn't
driven it for 6 months but did go out and start the
engine everyday.
What to do? Please and Thank You

Starter the car and check the volts it should be 13.5v to 14.5v
if not its the alternator /voltage regulator
