1998 Buick Century Check engine light.

P0401 is the code and I have installed a new EGR valve & cleaned the ports. Same error came back up and I have re-installed a new EGR again. I now need to reset my light due to a $30 fee now wanted by the garadge that has set it 2 times before for free. I am a single dad with a 16 year old daughter and have no money 2 give. My inspection has expired in Dec. & Every penny I have has gone in this Buick. I have 2 court dates due to non-inspection & tag and could us what ever help I can to get my car legal. I travel 140 miles per-day and is the only job I have and the only car to drive. I will lose all if I cannot get this car inspected. What help is out there, please help me because I sure could us it. Thanks

You might be able to reset by taking the battery cables loose and steeping on the brake. If the problem isn't fixed, I'm afraid the lite will come back on.

Thanks, I have tried that And will try it again. Pump 3 times and hold is used on alot of other models.
