My truck was driving along fine then the hand brake light appeared and even though the hand brake was off. So, I then pulled in, turned my engine off and back on and then drove away and it still said it was on. I then drove more and reversed into a parking space. I then heard a strange noise it wasn’t very loud. Then my friend drove up to help me and there was lots of liquid on the floor which we think was brake fluid, there was lots of it. We then put the truck into 4wd to check things and then lights started flashing on the dashboards and then the brake pedal stiffened. I slowly went forward, and my brakes went.

Hello,

The brake light can get illuminated due to having low brake fluid, a failing master cylinder or having the parking brake engaged. Keep in mind that the parking brake does not actually have to be engaged, but if the switch that turns on the light has shorted or is faulty it can trigger the light as well.

Here is a helpful guide:

You mentioned that you have found brake fluid leaking, so checking the fluid should be the first step.

Also, you will need to inspect and see where the brake fluid is leaking from.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
