how do you change the fan belts and are there any special tools required for a 2003 bmw z4 2.5L

There are no special tools required. Remove the A/C belt first and then the alt/water pump/, P\S pump belt. The adjustment pulleys have bolts through them, pop off the caps, turn the bolts and release the belts.
