Brakes problem
2001 BMW Z3 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I have done many brake jobs on many cars, but never on my girlfriends 2001 BMW Z3, 3.0.I have been warned that I will need certain tools for this job, such as a particular type of clamp for the caliper piston, and a star/torx set. Can you please advise on what special tools I should need for this job? Thanks.

I believe Torx is the correct spelling. You can compress the caliper with a pair of channel lock type pliers. The rest of it does not require special tools, just a 6mm Allen, a 7mm Allen, and a 17mm socket to get the wheels off. Then a socket for the caliper holder (16mm I believe) and a hammer to loosen the rotor, if you intend on replacing them.
