Noises problem
2001 BMW E46 4 cyl Automatic 180000 miles

Hi,

Ive been getting noises from the rear everytime I press the pedal. The noise would usually start when passing the 90km but when released, the noise goes away. When pressed again, it comes back. Some say I need to change my axel but I would like some second opinion on my problem. Thanx.

Noises are not easily transmitted in cyberspace, if you could help me out I can try to distinguish what the noises are and/or what is causing them. What does the noise sound like and exactly where is it coming from? From the rear is generalizing, which side? Is it a growl or a vibration or a groan or a squeak or some other term that could help.

Sorry bout that. I would say its, more of a humming sound increasing as it passes 90kmh. The sound is coming from the rear/aft leftside, I would say. I've added oil as a first step but the sound is still there. Checked the bearings, its ok. Still in good condition. Problem still not solved.

Added oil to what? This could be chalked up to tire noise for all I can tell. What method was used to remove the wheel bearings from suspicion? Has the drive shaft been inspected? I am at a loss.
