I recently had my transmission rebuilt and now the RPM's seem to be running a lot higher than before. For example, at 70 MPH, the RPM's are around 2700-2800. If memory serves me correctly, before they were down around 2000 to 2100. Does the computer need to be reconfigured or reset to reflect the rebuild? Also, the neutral safety switch was replaced during the rebuild.

Rebuilt transmissions for that car can be bothersome in as much as the matching of the control module to the tranny. Is the warning indicator illuminated? It sounds like the TCC might not be locking up at speed.

No, there is no warning indicator light illuminated. Other than running at the higher RPM's, the car seems to be driving normally. I am just concerned about the wear on the engine and poor gas mileage.

A local shop that specializes in transmission rebuilds. Couldn't afford the dealership for a 97 with 200,000 miles on it.

First thing I would do is go to the rebuilder and express your concerns. They should be willing to address this issue straightaway.
