2000 BMW 323 DSC light and air conditioner

Hello - I have a problem that began recently. When running the auto, there are no warning light, however, as soon as I turn on the air conditioner, the DSC lamp lights up. I'm unable to turn the lamp off and as far as I can tell, the drive system is unaffected. The air conditioner works fine.

Just for fun, I had a diagnostic run when the lamp was on and the code came back as P1188. I know that is an O2 sensor issue, but if there were a problem, wouldn't the light be on regardless of the air conditioner?

Scanning with a generic scanner can often be misleading, I recommend a scan with BMW specific scan tools. Then we can continue with the diagnosis. The problem might be several things and I tend to not trust the outcome of generic scanners.
