Transmission problem
1999 BMW 323 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive 135000 miles

I have a 323is that I bought 4 months ago. The problem I have is that the car without any warning sign when is shifting to 4th gear, it will make a noise and it will stay in neutral with no power and the transmission light will come on on the dash board. If I pull to the side of the road and wait a few minutes and them re-set the transmission light with the ignition key, the transmission will go back on gear again and I'm able to make it to my drive way. My problem is that it does not do it all the time. I can take the for a road test and drive it 10 or 15 miles without any problem. I'm afraid that the problem may be electric and not the transmission. I already found a transmission for the car but I'm afraid I will change the transmission and the problem will not be solve. Any suggestions?
Thank you
Wilfredo

You are correct, it is electrical problem in the valve body, you have a bad solenoid, I don't think you have the technology to fix it, you better take you to a transmission shop that knows German cars.

It could be a harness shorting out or a solenoid failure. This is not terribly difficult, are you at all inclined to attempt this repair yourself?

Well, you know the old saying, "It is better to ask permission than it is to ask for forgiveness"
