Hello,

This sounds like you have a major intake/vacuum leak going on. Any time the engine RPM's start "searching" or go high at idle and then hang there, a vacuum leak is the culprit 9 times out of 10. Here is a link to a guide below explaining how to find a vacuum leak. Please pay special attention to the intake manifold portion of the guide.

Please go through this guide and get back to us with what you find out.

Thanks,
Alex
