It has forward gears and drive, has the correct oil, and level is good, doesn't smell burnt. Put into R it won't back up, any suggestions?

More than likely you have an issue with one of the shift solenoids. Unfortunately there is no easy fix for it as this requires you to remove the pan and investigate or if you have a scan tool that can monitor the transmission, you may have the ability to see which solenoid is not engaging or one is staying engaged when it should not. Solenoids B and E should be on when shifting from park to reverse. Anything other than that and you will not get reverse.
