I have a 304, 5.0, automatic. I want to switch to a 6cyl. How difficult would that be?

Hey, Imma CJ kinda guy

SMART---I had a 304 in my 1st Jeep--too much engine

I could take on a F-16 in the 1/4 mile, till I ran out of 2nd Gear (manual tranny at 75 MPH) When I pulled it into 3rd, there was nothing left!

The CJ 304 Bell housing is the SAME ONE for a 258 or 232 on a manual tranny

To me it looks like your Automatic would bolt up the same way with no mods

'Course you know you will require 2 less plugs!

What you planning on sticking in it?

I recommend a 258--'77 to '79 (the newer one had a plastic cover and notorious for hard to stop leaking)has a Metal valve cover--get one with a 2 barrel BBD carb. Whatever you get, be aware the ones w/ a 1 barrel carb had a different cam than the ones with a 2 barrel carb

I have the Factory Service manual for 1979 for the Jeep Series. Covers 304s and 258s---trannys are mainly for 4WD. But some of it may apply for you!

Just let me know---I'm here to help--this new site RE-VAMP has me a little confused. Bear with me. Reply here!

I will help all I can!

I've had 1--304, 5--258s (one presently)

Here's a peek at "Mr. Jeeps" Heart.W/ 4 barrel 390 HOLLEY and a OFFY intake.
