I have just put my car in to Mitsubishi to have the hydraulic cylinder and slave changed. I had a phone call from them today saying that the slave cylinder is located by the clutch so they have removed the whole clutch. Is this the normal process removing it all just to change that? Secondly tried to charge me two and a half thousand pounds for a new clutch after he admitted there was nothing wrong with the one already on it?

You did not say what model and you being possibly in UK. I took this picture off of a Lancer. The clutch slave is inside the bell housing which the transmission would need to be pulled off to access, but the clutch could have been left alone. Yours should be similar to this one and see no reason why clutch would need replacing. See picture.
