The alternator has three bolts associated with it. Pivot bolt, tensioner bolt and a locking bolt. What size nut goes on the locking bolt to lock it into place once the belt is sufficiently tight on the bracket? I seem to be missing that nut so I'm having trouble getting the belt tight.

Hello,

Let me start out by saying that your screen name implies that you have a very nice ride. I too am a Mustang fan and was just wondering if you might be able to upload a picture of your mustang? I myself have a 1997 Supercharged Mustang GT, that is a sleeper for sure, looks completely stock from the outside, but is not once you get under the hood. Built the engine myself from the pistons on up and I made way to many modifications to get into here.
Okay, back to your question, I am not sure that your alternator has a backing nut on a bolt. The only nut should go to hold the ring connector from the wire to the battery onto the alternator itself. But if you want to put a nut on a bolt, I would suggest taking the bolt and running down to the local hardware store. They usually have a great fastener section and you should be able to match a nut to the bolt in question pretty easily. I have included a couple of exploded diagrams of the alternator and alternator bracket with the correct torque values for you in the diagrams down below. Please look these over and get back to us with what you find out, please.

Thanks,
Alex

I do have a 1969 mustang coupe that I'm restoring, small block 302. The Boss 9 is a dream. The pictures you provided were perfect. Thanks for your help.
