97 ES300 with loud muffler

My car was rear ended a couple months ago. It had 71k miles and needed 4k in repairs. The muffler is very loud now and my insurance co will not repair it until a mechanic says what is wrong with it. Two mechanics have looked at it and said 'yes' it is a little loud, but don't know why. I think this is crazy and I do not want to have to foot the bill to replace the exhaust system when my insurance should pay.

If there are no leaks anywhere in the exhaust sys. Depending on the severity of your accident. Chances are you have internal muffler damage i.E. The baffle(s) or a hole or split on the top side of the muffler between the car body and the top of the muffler
