300Z rod knocking

I noticed what sounds like a rod knocking while my car idels. It doesn't seem to happen when I give it a little gas. Could this be just a lifter or something else, or is it definitely a rod knocking?

I doubt you have a pushrod motor in your 300Z. Its not a rod. Usually it there is a rod like knocking sound, make sure it is not coming from the lower part of the engine, that could mean big time trouble. As for what causes knocks in the head of a cam motor, I'm not sure. Hopefully someone will reply that knows something about them.

Take off your fan belts and start the car for a few seconds and see if the knock goes away. If so isolate the source. Many times a worn serpentine belt will sound like an engine idle knock.
